Description

Health includes physical, mental, spiritual, social, and financial. Very seldom do people have high health in all these aspects at the same time. Many people will ignore one or more areas to improve their health in other aspects. To me, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition of health is very subjective. A person could potentially feel that there is not a health concern, however, they are an unmanaged bi-polar individual. As most nurses know, a person who is not managing their mental health is not a healthy person, despite what their physical body may reveal. Health should not be a theory of a state of being. There are several potential implications in practice, policy, and services regarding the definition of health (Leonardi, 2018). Being that this definition was adopted roughly 70 years ago, it is due for a re-examination. At the time this definition was developed, it was groundbreaking and helped to advance medicine and healthcare practices. Our world has advanced since then and many held beliefs and concepts in health management have evolved to continue with the needs of people (Card, 2017). Instructions: Using the definition of health and an individual’s perception of their own health(Diabetic), how can you distinguish between a vulnerable individual versus a vulnerable group?

According to the definition of health, a vulnerable individual refers to the person who needs community care services for various reasons such as mental illness, development of disability, age, and emotional disturbance, and the person may be unable or unable to take care of her/him against harm (De Chesnay and Anderson, 2019). The most vulnerable people in our communities include people having diabetes, dementia, and disabled people. In contrast, individual groups refer to people in the communities that experience a higher risk of social exclusion and poverty than other peoples in the community. The most common vulnerable groups include children, pregnant women, and mentally disabled peoples. The person suffering from diabetes is vulnerable to diseases since he/she has weak immunity (De Chesnay and Anderson, 2019). At the same time, the group of individuals in our communities is vulnerable to diseases. They need special care and treatment to reduce or minimize the risks of developing other diseases.

I think vulnerable individuals are only one person in our community or our families suffering from either diabetic one or diabetic 2. According to the definition of health by WHO, if a person has an issue, it may be is not serious or the person is not suffering, but that person is ill. At the same time, I can say vulnerable group, according to WHO, is the group of individuals in our communities suffering from either diabetic one or diabetic 2. When several people suffering from diabetes are combined, they form a group of individuals suffering from diabetes (Leonardi, 2018).  Vulnerable people are essential in our communities, and they need special care and treatment to help them improve their immunity since they are vulnerable to diseases.

The definition of health has placed emphasis only on the individual subjective on the experience hence accounting into different levels on the issues placed important for health since physical condition varies depending on person. The conditions that have a little significance in one person have the likelihood of having diverse impacts on another person.  The physical conditions are same for all individuals and it has various impacts on the levels of well-being. For example two people may be suffering from the same disease such as cancer but the pain will differ depending on the stage of the diseases and immunity of the affected person (Leonardi, 2018). Definition of health according to WHO has helped people in managing their condition to avoid or minimize sickness since people were able to understand if they are not managing their mental illness, they are unhealthy even if their physical body is not feeling unwell. It is important for people to live healthy life through exercising and eating healthy foods.
